Full moon

Hey! :) I did another couple of chapters! Please comment on what you think, I'll take any good suggestion, no matter if you're complaining or liking it.

Lily’s forehead was burning from the strong Saturday morning sunshine when she woke up, “Morning, Lily.”
She sat up and found the dorm empty except for her closest girl friend, Amy, smiling down at her.
“What are you smiling about?” Lily yawned and swung her legs off the bed.
“Last night,” Amy started. “James Potter came in and, shall we say, tucked you into bed and gave you a good nights kiss.”
“He did not!” Lily exclaimed.
“Of course he did, it was really sweet. Lucky Jasmine didn’t see it, she’d be green with envy!”
“Wait! Does anyone else know?” Lily asked anxiously.
“I don’t think so,” Amy replied. “You know me, I’m a night owl. I sleep loads later than others.”
“Good,” Lily heaved a sigh of relief. The last thing she needed was for her dorm mates to start gossiping non-stop about her and James Potter.
“Do like him, Lily?” Amy asked, getting straight to the point. “I mean any girl would have fallen for that. Including you.”
Lily shrugged, “I don’t know, Ames. I don’t know.”

“Gah, Monday’s Theory of Charms OWLs,” Amy groaned as they walked into the Gryffindor common room on Saturday night. “I’m a complete idiot at them!”
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine,” Lily comforted her. “We spent all day in the library today revising.”
“Yeah, look how’s Potter revising,” Amy suddenly said softly as her stare settled in a corner of the common room. Lily followed her gaze and saw Potter sucking the life out of Jasmine, their lips seemed to have the Permanent-Sticking Charm on them. Something flared up in Lily’s chest, “What the…”
“D’you think he really meant what he said last night, Lils?” Amy said.
“I don’t think so,” Lily snarled. She was furious at James Bloody Potter. Had he charmed her like he did with other girls the night before? Was Lily played by James “Toerag” Potter? But there was something more than anger in Lily… Something she couldn’t identify. It was the same feeling that she got when Potter had beaten her in Transfiguration. It was… Jealousy?
Don’t be ridiculous! Lily reprimanded herself. How could she be jealous of Jasmine? Potter was treating me like one of his fan girls last night! How dare he! And there is absolutely no reason for me to be jealous because if I am, I’d have to like that slimy git!
“Lily!” Mary McDonald’s voice cut into her thoughts. “Snape’s waiting outside the Fat Lady, he want’s to see you and he says he won’t leave until you meet him!” At the sound of his name, Lily went numb. Let’s see what that other idiot has to say for himself, Lily thought bitterly.
She found him standing outside of the portrait.
“What do you want?” she demanded. “I only came out because Mary told me you threatened to sleep here if I didn’t.”
Severus looked at her, “I’m really, really sorry. I didn’t mean to say that word, it sort of…”
“Slipped out?” Lily spat. “You call every Muggle-born here a Mudblood, why shouldn’t I be the same?”
Severus seemed to be at a lost for words, “Y-y-you are my best friend, Lily. I don’t know what got hold of me then.”
“No,” Lily replied scathingly. “I was your best friend and if I were you, I don’t think I would’ve accidently call my best friend a Mudblood.” Lily turned her head, glaring at the air.
“Don’t! Lily, please!” Severus said in a desperate voice. He sounded just like when they first met when she was ten. The way he had stood up against Tuney when she called her a freak. When he comforted her when Tuney ignored her… Lily missed those times terribly and tears started to well up in her eyes again. Enough! Stop thinking about those times! He’s a foul git now!
“Enough, Snivelly,” James Potter suddenly appeared behind her. “Just go away.” Lily’s head spun around, “Why do you care, Potter? Just go back snogging Jasmine, after saying all that stuff to me last night! Happy, aren’t you? I don’t have a best friend anymore, you’ve successfully charmed me like you do with Jasmine and the others and now you think you’re such a hero!”
Lily stormed away from the two gaping boys and headed outside the castle, she needed some fresh air. Severus frowned at James Potter and walked away.

“What did I do again?” James groaned as Padfoot and Wormy appeared behind him.
“I told you it wouldn’t work!” Wormy cried, elbowing Padfoot. “Now you’ve made Prongs lose Lily all over again!”
“Sorry, Prongs,” Padfoot sighed. “Evans is really a tough one, isn’t she? Anyways, come on. It’s full moon tonight and Moony’s in the Forest already.”

“Stupid gits. Boys are so annoying!” Lily snarled loudly, striding briskly out of the castle’s gates. She didn’t care when she was going now, just somewhere far away, maybe beside the lake but she found herself in the Forbidden Forest. She had heard about the terrible things living in there but she was too angry to think properly. After a while, Lily was getting cold and she was lost. Then she heard howling.
Lily froze in her tracks. She turned in a full circle, nothing but dark trees that loomed over her, covering the full moon. Her breathing echoed in her ears and her heart was leaping to her mouth. What was that? Lily backed away and slammed into something. Something warm and furry. She whirled around and found herself barely inches from a towering werewolf! It’s ice-blue eyes sparkled in the darkness, it curled it’s lip and growled menacing at her. Lily swallowed and her blood turned into ice. What did Professor Merrythought, her DADA teacher had said?
“A werewolf completely loses it’s inner self at the full moon, it only answers to its own kind and would even kill its best friend.”
The sort-of advice raced through her head. Lily stood rooted to the spot, she reached inside her robes and pulled out her wand and held it trembling in front of her. Her courage was drained completely and she was unable to even to Stun the beast.
“Stupefy,” Lily hardly managed to get the spell out of her mouth and a flash of light exploded out of the wand and shot at the werewolf. The jinx bounced off and flew into the night. The creature snarled and swatted Lily’s wand out of her hands, leaving her completely vulnerable. It opened its mouth wide, showing long, sharp teeth, glinting in the moonlight. She gulped, closed her eyes and waited for death.

Then a loud rustling sounded behind the beast, distracting it and a stag with large, beautiful antlers leaping out of the darkness. Lily gasped at it threw itself between Lily and the werewolf. It rammed its antlers into the werewolf’s chest, sending it flying backwards into the gloom where Lily thought a black dog and a rat was wrestling it to the ground, making loud snapping sounds.
Lily looked gratefully at the stag, she saw that its hazel eyes with golden flecks had a rather recognizing look in it. They, too, seemed familiar to Lily.
“James?” Lily whispered. The stag stared at her for a moment and jerked its head. It knelt on its front legs, motioned Lily to climb on its back. Lily cautiously sat on it and the stag shot forward into the night and before she knew it, she was right outside the Hogwarts school gates.

“What did you think you were doing, Evans!” James yelled at Lily, who had just slid off his back and he had morphed back into human form. Lily stared at him with startled eyes.
“I-I-I didn’t know,” Lily stammered.
“You could’ve been killed by Moony!” James shouted. “If I hadn’t caught up with you and Padfoot and Wormtail hadn’t been there, Moony would’ve eaten you! Eaten you! Do you hear me, EVANS!”
“I heard you, Potter,” Lily said coolly. “But I thought you didn’t care about me anymore, after charming me with words then snogging another girls barely 12 hours later?” James’s face fell, “Of course I care, Lily. But what about you, Evans? I had to make sure that you felt something too. I paid Jasmine two Sickles to put up that show and I promise that I don’t feel a thing for her.”
“How do I know?” Lily narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“I’m lots of things, Lily Evans,” James said. “I’m even a stag! But I’m not a liar. Have I ever lied to you once, Lily?”
For once Lily didn’t respond.
“Here’s your wand, I picked it up before I saved you,” James muttered and pulled her swishy wand, perfect for charms, and handed to her.
Lily took it and murmured a thanks.
“I’ll leave you to your thoughts. Just stay away from the Forbidden Forest tonight,” James nodded curtly and disappeared back into the trees, leaving Lily Evans staring at the grass in the dark by herself.
James felt his antlers appearing again and his limbs growing longer. The memory of Lily nearly getting attacked was making his nerves explode.

Flashback

Come on, Moony! James thought. Let’s get away from the castle as much as we can. But halfway through the Forbidden Forest, Moony had suddenly turned and sped away. James sighed, what now? He galloped after Moony and found him leering at a familiar redheaded person. He recognized Evans, fear flashing in her emerald eyes as Moony was leering at her with a hungry look in his eyes. James could see her trembling as she pointed her wand at him and aimed a rather flimsy curse. Moony swiped his claws and for a moment, James thought he had scarred Lily’s beautiful face. But it turned out he had only disarmed her and the familiar wand fell at James’s hooves, he picked it up by his mouth and it disappeared, knowing it would appear in his clothes afterwards. Then he noticed Moony baring his teeth.
NO! Moony! James knew exactly what Moony was thinking. This human being wasn’t Lily Evans anymore. It was food. It was all that mattered to Moony. He poured in speed and leapt between them. He gave a meaningful glare at Moony and pushed him backwards where Padfoot and Wormtail were ready to hold him down.
He turned to Lily, she looked even better in the dark. She glanced at him, beaming brightly. Did she recognize him as well?
“James?” she had whispered. His heart warmed, it was the second time she had smiled at him and he loved how she had said his name. Not Potter, not Toerag and not slimy git or anything like that. He wanted to morph into his regular self but Moony was too close so James had taken Lily out of the forest as fast as possible.
But that was for later, he now had to make sure Padfoot and Wormtail didn’t gnaw too much flesh and skin off Moony.
